Guest Post - Finding Yard Sales

Life is not cheap these days and every time you turn around, your kids want a new toy or some new clothes. It all adds up pretty quickly because it is pretty hard to say no to your children. So a great solution that I have found to be very beneficial is to shop around at yard sales and thrift shops.

These underground locales are probably the most efficient way to find just about anything random for such an incredibly reasonable price. It's really shocking that more people don't utilize these discounted sales.

Thrift stores have items that many people donate in exchange for a tax write off. The thrift shops are usually in business to profit just enough to cover the basic employee and maintenance expenses. All the extra goes to saving money in your pocket. The most common thrift shops are Goodwill Stores, but Habitat For Humanity and the Salvation Army both have locations throughout the country.

Most of the time you will be able to find items that are like new with tags still attached and prices marked down 50 - 80 % from their initial retail value.

Yard sales are sometimes even better than the thrift stores because you don't have to worry about paying sales tax. Items can be even cheaper due to the fact that the owners just want to get rid of stuff they no longer use. In many cases you will be able to find kids board games, sports equipment and toys for all ages for incredibly low prices, usually around $1-$3. Also many families hold garage sales to get rid of items that the kids never wore or used and thus makes a great opportunity to find clothing at steep discounts.

If you are wondering how to find all of these great sales then you're in luck. Garage Sales Tracker is a website to find all the yard sales, flea markets and consignment shops in your area. Garage Sales Tracker provides turn by turn directions by Google Maps. If you have an iPhone of iPod touch, you can use the free garage sale application to find and save your day plan of sales in the palm of your hand.

Rich has been an avid bargain hunter since he started attending flea markets and garage sales with his parents every weekend in the summer growing up. This childhood hobby has grown into a job of helping others find the local garage sales, flea markets, and other bargains in their area by running the site garage sales tracker which also offers a free iPhone application for finding these sales in the palm of your hand if your already out on the road looking for those garage sale signs.
